This year, we spent Christmas with my side of the family in Utah. At the top of our to do list was to take the kids to see Temple Square in Salt Lake City. It is such a beautiful place, especially at Christmas time. The lights were AMAZING. I could have spent hours walking the grounds with my camera.

Before I dive into blogging family sessions, I wanted to share a few pictures of my second newest nephew that was born before Halloween.

When these cuties' mom asked me to do this photoshoot, I couldn't help but get sentimental. They are the same ages as my two youngest, so taking these pictures reminded me of them and how much they have all grown up this past year.

"Miss M" just turned four years old, started preschool, and has become quite the beautiful young lady.

"Mr. H" has recently turned eighteen months old and is always on the go. Always exploring with his new sense of independence. I can't believe how much has changed in the past year & 1/2.

I usually listen to music while I edit. I made the mistake of listening to Hourglass by Mindy Gledhill while working on these pictures. Before I knew it, I was a sappy and emotional wreck. They really grow up way too fast.

I can't believe that Mr. W is already 6 months old! It really seemed like it was yesterday that I was visiting him in the NICU. Now, he is a little boy with gorgeous blue eyes and always full of smiles!

I really had a great time with this newborn session. I love it when I get to shoot on-location at the baby's new home. You find all sorts of fun props that actually have some sentimental meaning to the family. In this case, we used the cowboy boots that belonged to his great grandfather and his daddy's old skateboard. I also brought a few of my own props like my new scale that my my dear friend found at a yard sale. Love it!

This little sweetheart is my neice. She was born while I was in Utah. I couldn't wait to get back and take her pictures. I was also excited to use my new baby bed that her dad helped me build.

Adam & Britney- Salt Lake Temple

This was my first wedding as a photographer and I also happened to be the hairstylist and make-up artist. I think my day officially started at 4 a.m. It was a beautiful (and very early) day. On the way to the temple, a bunch of hot-air balloons dotted the horizon. I guess there must have been a festival going on. Behind the balloons, the sun was just rising behind the mountains. It was an amazing sight. It was a very happy day. And as a bonus, I even got to see Elder Holland in the temple.

This bride happens to be my beautiful sister. The bridal session actually took us a couple of tries to get it right. On our first attempt, we drove around Cottonwood Canyon at sunset, looking for a good location. But by the time we finally got out of the car, the sun had disappeared. On our second attempt, we were much wiser. We headed up to Mount Timpanogos, gave ourselves plenty of time, and brought along a guy who knows his way around a mountain, my dad. And thanks to him, we found the perfect spot.

one week & six days

Baby W was still brand new when we took these pictures. He was the little perfect model for me. I was able to bend and pose him, as I liked, with only a few pacifier breaks.

I love his squishy lips/cheeks, wrinkly back, and all of his cowlicks. He is perfect in every way.

Last night, I got to visit the cutest little "Peanut" in the NICU. He is proof of how unexpected life can be sometimes. His mom and dad had waited patiently for years for this little guy to join their family. Then, when it came time for him to come, they were taken by surprise! He decided to come almost five weeks early, only weighing a little over 5 pounds.

Congratulations, "B" family, on your beautiful boy!

T Family Kids

I was worried when I pulled up to the location of the shoot and found that every single rose bush and plant was no longer there. But with adorable kids like these, there's no need for scenery. I'd much rather let their personalities take the spotlight.

Miss E had plenty of personality, so cute and bubbly!

Miss M, like almost all two-year olds, is full of energy and curiosity. She was busy exploring the garden, so I followed her around and possibly stalked her a little too much!

Mr. J, at three months old, is the youngest. His older sisters were quite smitten with him!

He looked so handsome in his little sailor outfit!

A few things that I loved about this session:

Trying out a new location!
No small children! Which means there was no bribery or coaxing involved. (Well, none that I witnessed)
This family! I love 'em to pieces!

I loved to watch how smitten these first time parents were with their new baby boy. It wasn't long before I could see why. Baby "C" was such a sweet, good natured & calm baby. It was obvious to see that this adorable baby was very welcomed with love. ♥

This next family happens to be some good friends of ours. They are expecting baby #3 in the next few months! When we pulled up to the location we originally planned on for this photoshoot we were surprised to find that it was right in the middle of a Christmas parade! We decided that Santa, Elvis, and Bugs Bunny were not wanted in the family photo and went straight to plan "B".

The kids were such good sports. They tried their best to stick it out on that really cold and windy day.

I told the kids to go and find the best leaf that they could find. It was very difficult to keep a leaf still in the strong wind!

I guess it's even harder when you have your big sister talking your ear off ;)

a Texas-sized reunion

Here's another shoot that I did a while back. Most of this family came from a different state for a family reunion. Groups of this size, with this many kiddos, can be um... a little bit of a challenge to work with. This family was so much fun to work with and everyone was so patient (kids included). This family was my last family at the train depot. They have already seen these, but I still wanted to share. They were such a cute little family and their son, "J", was so much fun!

Up next is the family of some great (and patient!) friends of ours. They prove my theory that if two good-looking people fall in love and have babies- those babies will also be gorgeous.

Take their oldest, a sweet and adorable girl, who is my Jack's girlfriend.

Now, let's look at the newest addition to the family, Mr. H.

You might remember him from this newborn session. A lot has happened since then. Now, he has even more hair with these beautiful ringlets.

Rolling, scooting, a few teeth, and siting up on his own. He is growing up so quickly! Already the typical little boy.

I can almost hear his hysterical scream...

Despite all of the changes, some things will never change ;)

So yes... my theory stands that beautiful parents = beautiful children.

How do you get a busy, little two year old boy to be excited about family pictures? Especially when he is stuck sitting on an old crate and not free to sprint across the wide open field he is in?

I tried my usual bag of tricks like making weird noises with my tongue, help from Mom and Dad, and trying to make him laugh.

But none of it worked. And at times, he even looked bored.

So we tried other tactics like tickling...

And making the goofiest faces we could.

Nothing.

I did get plenty of smiles and posing from his three older sisters.

So, I enlisted the help of his crazy uncle and cousins (my husband and our little boys). I'm not sure exactly what crazy stunts they were doing behind my back... but whatever it was worked!

Last Saturday, I got to attend a beautiful sealing at the Dallas temple. Some close friends of mine were sealed to their adopted daughter. We were fortunate to have a break in the rain long enough for a few pictures. I also learned that you can only take pictures in front of the temple for a wedding. Am I the only one that didn't know of that rule? Well, congratulations guys! I truly couldn't be happier for you!

The best part about my trip to Utah this summer was, of course, seeing my wonderful family! One Monday, for Family Home Evening, we went to a lake near my parent's house and had a little photo shoot.

This is my gorgeous little sister who will be leaving soon to serve a mission in Fiji.

This is my adorable and sweet neice, who put up with her mean cousin, Jack, the whole time we were there.
This handsome and studly man is my little brother. I swear he grows at least a foot everytime I see him!
This is my little sister's cute family. She is expecting baby girl #2 this fall but you could never tell because she is such a skinny little thing.

And finally, this is my baby sister who is such a great friend to my two boys.
